Dillon Hall Heads List Of Sires At Addington

TROTTING

Dillon Hall, which has been high on the list of leading sires for the last nuje seasons, started the current term well when his progeny won £2700 during the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's Grand National meeting, which concluded at Addington on Saturday.

Dillon Hall is still at the stud in Southland, but he has served very few mares during the last two seasons. It is thought that he left two mares in foal last season. Dillon Hall’s progeny raced for 13 seasons up to July 31 last, and during that time they won 1122 races and earned more than £512,000 in stakes. If the earnings of his progeny in Australia are included, his total would probably exceed £600.000. Among many good winners by Dillon Hall in Australia have been Blue Mist, Bruce Hall, and Centennial Hall.

Our Roger, winner of the Louisson Handicap on the first day, was Dillon Hail’s main winner at the recent Addington meeting. Both he and Our Kentucky, a most convincing winner on Saturday, should help to keep Dillon Hall near the top of the list again this season.

Light Brigade is second on the list with three wins and 10 placings worth £2405 Ten of his progeny earned stake money at the meeting. His three winners, Vapour Trail. Crimea, and Superfortress, all won most convincingly, and they should add to the record of their sire in the next few weeks.

Excellenza’s two wins in the best trotters’ races put Quite Sure in third place Whipster, the sire of Don Hall ano Glint, was fourth, just ahead of U Scott, the leading sire for last season.

Altogether the progeny of 22 sires earned stakes at the meeting.

Lang has been appointed publicity officer by the New Zealand Trotting Conference. Mr Lang is one of the conference’s stipendiary stewards. Greymouth Club A profit of £685 was made by the Greymouth Trotting Club last season. This is shown in the report to be presented at the annual meeting of the club today.

Considerable repairs and maintenance were carried out during the year. More than £llOO was spent on renewing the inside running rail. Further improvements were planned. The club’s assets now stand at £23,349. Swabbing of Horses “The procedure to be adopted by the New Zealand Trotting Conference over the swabbing of horses is that clubs will be advised to withhold the stakes of the horses concerned in cases where stakes are involved,” said the publicity officer of the New Zealand Trotting Conference (Mr J. H. Lang) in a statement yesterday. “The decision as to what subsequent action will be taken will be decided in the normal way in accordance with the circumstances governing individual cases. All inquiries and decisions will be made as provided by the Rules of Trotting.” Notable Double The imported stallion, Jack Potts, achieved a high honour last season when, as well as being the leading sire of brood mares in New Zealand, he headed the list at Harold Park, Sydney. It is doubtful whether this feat has been achieved by any other sire. In Sydney, brood mares sired by Jack Potts produced 10 individual winners. These horses won 18 races and £16,697 in stakes. The 10 successful horses were: Young Wexford (six wins), Red Slipper (three), Lady Wexford (two), Eureka Scott, Gay Knight, Heather Brigade, Qualified, Defendant. Regal Gold and First Variety. All 10 were bred in New Zealand. Jack Potts was almost £lO,OOO ahead of the second horse, Cobber o’ Mine.
