VEHICLE TESTING STATION
EXTRA EQUIPMENT BEING INSTALLED
A third lane will soon be in use at ;the Christchurch City Council’s ; vehicle-testing station. Testing equipment is at present being installed. The brake-testing equipment can be used •for either cars or heavy trucks. One of the previous lanes was re- • served for cars only, and the other was . used for heavy vehicles and some cars. The City Council’s Traffic Superintendent (Mr G. P. Kellar) said that the new lane should relieve congestion at rush times, especially before holidays.
To the west of the station is a .newbuilding. which has been completed for the Transport Department to carry out tests fqr certificates of fitness for passenger and goods vehicles. Certificates for taxis are issued by the City Council
