GAINS AT EXPENSE OF RABBITS

During the last few years there has increase in wool production in the. Commonwealth; arid m most cases this is attributed to the destruction of the rabbit pest. In 1950 the total sales of wool was 3,597,000 \ 955, sales reached the 4,000,000 mark, and the National Coun-. cu o* Woolbrokers in a report state that in the 1955-56 season, it is estimated that at least 4,116,000 bales will be. received into store for sale, 76 per cent, of which will be Merino and 24 per cent, crossbred. A woolgrower in giving his experience said that when nis property carried a lot of rabbits his best wool clip was 275 bales. Now it is free from rabbits and his clip last season was 353 bales from the same area of land.
