AERADIO AT LEVELS AIRPORT
PLANS FOR NEW STATION ANNOUNCED (From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, August 10. The announcement that an aeradio station is to be established at the Levels Airport was made at the annual meeting of the South Canterbury Airport Committee tonight. Mr C. R. Hervey, who was re-elected chairman of the committee, said that a letter to this effect had been received from Mr P. E. Hudson, regional superintendent of the Civil Aviation Department in Christchurch. Temporary arrangements were being drawn up for the station to be installed in an adjacent departmental house which would be occupied by a married operator, the letter said. The station would be linked with the Christchurch Civil Aviation Administration communications centre by .teleprinter, and would provide . weather information and a general flight advisory service. The installation of the aeradio station, said Mr Hervey, would raise the status of the airport to that of an attended field and bring closer the establishment of extended runways essential to the operation of larger aircraft.
