INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS
ARRANGEMENTS FOR CONVENTION CHRISTCHURCH MEETINGS THIS MONTH A convention on international relations sponsored by a group of Christchurch clergy and laity belonging to six different churches, will be held in Christchurch from August 27 to August 31. The subjects for discussion are the Commonwealth’s role in world affairs, the' United Nations, and South-east Asia. Each of the first three mornings of the convention will be taken up by a lecture on one of the subjects, and in the afternoons study groups will the subjects in more detail. At each of the evening sessions, which .will be open to the public, a panel will discuss the day’s subject. Morning speakers will be Mr J. J. Saunders, Dr. Helmut Pappe, and Mr P. Martin Smith. The chairmen of the convention will be Messrs G. Troup, G. Manning, and the Revs. A. K. Petcn and A. A. Brash. On Saturday, August 27, the afternoon study groups will be addressed on the Commonwealth by Messrs W. J. Gardner, D. D. Cuthbert, Dr. W. Oliver, and Canon M. L. Wiggins, an Anglican missionary in Tanganyika. The evening panel members will be Professor L. G. Pocock, Messrs P. B. Vincent, D. K. Fieldhouse, G. M. Miller, and W. T. Roy. The United Nations will be discussed on August 28. The afternoon speakers will be Messrs H. G. Kilpatrick, J. W. Blackwood, A. B. Ryan, G. M. Miller, R. H. Bowron, and Dr. A. L. Haslam. The evening panel will be Messrs E. P. Wills, A. B. Ryan, and A. J. Danks. South-east Asia will be the topic for discussion on August 30. Afternoon speakers will be Messrs Roy,
. Youren, W.. Bosenberg, Fieldhouse and W. Freer (member of Parliament for r Mount Albert). The evening panel will i be Messrs Manning, Boy, Youren, and ; Danks.
