Report Of British Supremacy
TOKYO, August 10. Japanese newspapers today received from a European correspondent a report that Britain is “far ahead” of Russia or America in the development of practical nuclear reaction power plants. The correspondent in Geneva of the Japanese national news agency, Kyodo, Mt Roy Otake, states in a report published today, that both the Americans - and the Russians revealed technical difficulties yet to ? overcome. The Russians claimed that more work must be done towards lifting the conversion rate of uranium 0.32 to a higher practical rate. The American “boiling water’’ type of reactor plant still faced too many problems to be “commercially expedient.” Britain’s “Calder Hall” type of nuclear plant came nearer to “commercial expedient purposes ” British delegates declined to reveal the estimate a kilowatt price of their plant, but it is believed to be lower than either the Soviet or the American type. England’s apparent supremacy in the peaceful use of atomic power is credited to her devoting more effort in this field in preparation for a possible shortage of conventional* type fuel in the next few decades, Mr Otake re-: ports.
