INDIANS MASS ON GOA BORDER

March On Territory Next Week

NEW DELHI, August 10. The Indian Prime Minister (Mr Nehru) met the all-party Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee today to discuss the problem of Goa, the Portuguese Indian territory claimed by India. Indian demonstrators have been converging on the border, ready to march into Goa on Indian Independence Day, August 15. The ruling Congress Party supports the Indian “liberation” of Goa, but discourages mass marches which might lead to violence. Mr Nehru is expected to urge the Opposition leaders to restrain their followers from joining the ma»i marches on Goa, and from any aggressive acts which might provoke violence. Strong Indian police patrols are manning all roads leading into Goa to prevent the Indepeh'dence Day march. But officials admit they will be unable to stop the demonstrators from crossing by jungle paths in the rough country along Goa r s 185-mile border. Senior Foreign Ministry officials have denied foreign reports of Indian troops massing near the Goa border.
