VICEREGAL (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 10. The Governor-General (Sir W:l--loughby Norrie). Lady Norrie, and Mr Guy Norrie returned to Government House this morning from Christchurch. Mr J. D. Ormond, chairman of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, left Christchurch for Wellington last evening to attend a meeting of a board committee today. He will return by steamer express this evening, and will remain in Christchurch until Saturday evening. Dr. Marcel Pradervand, general secretary of the Alliance of Presbyterian Churches of the World, will visit 'Christchurch from October 8 to 10. Dr. Pradervand is the first general secretary of the alliance to visit New Zealand. Mr W. D. Francis has been received as a student for the minirtrii of the Church by the Presbytery > Wellington. Mr Francis is a son of the Rev. C. S. Francis, of St. Paul’s Church, Christchurch, and is at present a schoolteacher. Mr James Roberts, president of the South Island Waterside Workers’ Federation, was unable to represent it before the Waterfront Industry Tribunal in Wellington yesterday, because he is a patient in the Wellington Hospital. He has been in thehospital since August 7. His condition is now satisfactory.—(P.A.). Sub-Inspector G. A. Howes, who ha* been a member of the Invercargill central police staff for almost seven years, has been transferred to the Wellington uniform branch. He joined the force in Invercargill in April, 1925. —(P.A.) Mr B. W. Collins, the district geologist in Christchurch, will leave for Melbourne today to attend a meeting of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science, where he will give two addresses. While in Australia, Mr Collins will visit the Geological Surveys and irrigation and water conservation authorities in South Australia, Victoria, and New South Wales. Mr Arnold Greenwood will be nominated for life membership of the New Zealand School Committees’ Federation at the conference next year. The Canterbury Association has submitted his record of service to education, ranging from primary school committees and post-primary school boards to the Canterbury Education Board and Canterbury University College Council. He has been secretary of the association for many years, and this year is president of the federation. Mr R. P. Suggate. a senior geologist with the .Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, has left Christchurch to attend & meeting of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science, to be held in Melbourne. Mr E. B. E. Taylor has been appointed a member qf the Rangi-ruru Board of Governors. Mr Taylor will represent the Parent-Teacher Association on the board.
