MOTHERS’ CLUB OF Y.W.C.A.

25TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS The Mothers’ Club of the Christchurch Y.W.C.A. will celebrate its twenty-fifth birthday with a social gathering to be held this afternoon. The club was formed because some of the mothers of the group known at the time as the Girl Citizens of the Y.W.C.A. felt that they knew very little about the activities of their girls, or of the staff in charge of them. Twenty-five years ago, Mrs W. H. Meddings was chairman of the girls’ wor!- mimittee of the association, and a member of its |)oard of control. Hearing the mothers’ point of view, Mrs Meddings decided to invite them to attend a meeting and discuss matters. From that meeting, the mothers’ club was formed. It is still functioning strongly. Tne aim of the club was to interest mothers in their girls’ activities, to help them to raise money for camp holidays, and similar objects, and to enable some girls to go to conferences in other parts of New Zealand. When the girl citizens’ clubs ceased to exist, the Mothers* Club carried on in the interest of the Y.W.C.A., and gave any service needed.

Now that the junior activities have been revived, the Mothers’ Club has undertaken to help the girls in obtaining a camp site. The club meets twice a month, and holds afternoon socials, demonstrations, and “bring and buy” sales and listens to travel talks. The president is Mrs R. A. Ambridge, and Mrs M. Williams is secretary.
