T.B. TESTING OF SHOW CATTLE

WAIVING OF RULE NOT ENDORSED A remit from the Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association suggesting that the rule for tuberculosis testing of cattle for shows be waived, was not taken up at the conference of the Royal Agricultural Society, reported Mr H. C. Sidey to the committee of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association yesterday. Mr Sidey said the suggestion could have caused some concern to the Canterbury association, but its president (Mr J. L. Macfarlane) had scotched the whole thing by saying that there would be no non-tuberculosis-tested cattle allowed in the Canterbury show. Another remit, Mr Sidey said, was that the Royal Agricultural Society be given more control. “I don’t think that is a bad idea, and it would certainly help our secretary with the handling of sideshows,” he said. It would be important then that the central district council should take a bigger part in the conference, and he thought. the lead should be given by the Canterbury association. Mr G. H. Grigg said the association wanted to be sure that, at the next meeting of the central district council, which would be in May next ypar. it was well represented. “And I think Mr Macfarlane should be elected chairman,” he added. Supporting Messrs Sidey and Grigg,' Mr Macfarlane said that representation was essential because Canterbury was the only association of the central district which ran a Royal show.
