HEAVY SNOW IN N.S.W.

MOUNTAIN TOWNS CUT OFF SYDNEY. August 10. Bulldozers, tractors and snowcarts are being used in an attempt to get urgently-needed food into snowbound towns in New South Wales. The towns, on the southern alps have not had fresh supplies since last week. Supplies of fresh meat and vegetables have run out and residents are eating canned foods. The towns affected are Kosciusko, Kiandra and four Snowy Mountain Authority camps. Supplies of tinned food in the stores are rapidly diminishing. Some shops have only sufficient canned food to last a few more days. Women with children have been given priority for tinned milk supplies. Although stores in Kiandra keep a good food supply, more than 50 motorists stranded in the town have drained stocks. All roads leading to Kiandra and Kosciusko are under feet of snow. Construction groups are using every available tractor and bulldozer to get goods into the snowbound towns and camps.

Barbara Hutton Marriage Report.— West German evening newspapers reported last night that Gottfried Von Cramm, the German tennis player, planned to marry Miss Barbara Hutton, the Woolworth heiress, in Tangiers on September 1. Von Cramni, who is going shortly to Tangiers, where Miss Hutton is at present staying, declined to comment one way or the other. “If you ask me again in October, I may give the answer,” he said. —Hamburg, August 9.
