BLOCKADE OF CHINA
No Slackening By Nationalists TAIPEH, August 9. A high Chinese Nationalist foreign official said today that the Nationalist Navy will continue “without the slightest slackening,” to intercept any foreign ship attempting to enter Communist ports on the China mainland. The official, who asked not to be named, made the statement when asked by reporters whether the Nationalist Navy would relax its interference with foreign ships along the China coast, as the result of Britain’s strong protest on Saturday against the attack on the British ship Inchwells at the entrance to the Communist port of Foochow. The 1896-ton Inchwells, attacked by two Thunderjets off Foochow last Wednesday, was severely damaged below the waterline. The Inchwells, now in dry dock in Hong Kong, suffered hull damage from the concussion of four bombs dropped close to the vessel during the attack. '
