Man Postpones Execution.— John Goffett, a 22-year-old farmhand, due to die on the gallows on Thursday, has put off his own hanging—by filling in a form giving notice of appeal. Goffett later withdrew the notice, which he had filled in without consulting his lawyer—but under the law the hanging had to be postponed.— London, August 8.
