Auckland Cancer Campaign
The Auckland cancer fund appeal has now reached £134,053 6s 4d. Of this, £27,400 had been received or promised before the radio appeal on June 30. In addition to the £73,438 promised then, an amount of £29,536 has since come in “out of the blue” from persons who had no telephones or could not get through with their offers that night. Mr B. William Potter, Auckland secretary of the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society, said that the order for the MetropolitanVickers linea acceleration had already been placed and plans for the erection of a suitable building at the Auckland Public Hospital were well advanced. “Meanwhile the money does not lie idle,” said Mr Potter. “It has been invested in short-term trust investments, and will bring in to the fund an additional £lOO a week until the capital is absorbed in the supervoltage and research projects.”—(P.A.)
