JUVENILE DELINQUENCY
Sir,—All the talk in the world will not stop delinquency unless the people practise in their own homes what they preach. It is no good teaching children to keep holy the Sabbath when people all around are breaking it, or teach them to love their enemies or turn the other cheek and force them to train for war. Teach them to be truthful, reasonable, honest, and just instead of what was ancient, plausible, consoling, or profitable; and see that they practise it. It would alter the world. Children are more influenced by what is done than by what is said. There is no forgiveness for wrong unless full restitution is made. To treat friend and foe with justice is better than pretending to love an enemy.—Yours, etc., RATIONALIST. August 9. 1955.
