SETTLEMENT OF SERVICEMEN
£lr, —At a sale recently a soldier settler brought his run. Hu now holds what was three runs and slices of two other runs, or more than the original holding before being cut up for servicemen of 1914-18. These runs were worked by men of the 191418 war and pioneered by them. They erected houses and buildings and fencing. planted trees, and ploughed the land. These men received 6d per lb for their wool cne year, against 60d pe lb for some years received bv the present settlers of the 1939-45 war. It would be interesting to know what the Commissioner of Crown Lands, the Rehabilitation Department, and the Land Valuation Committee think of this aggregation.—Yours, etc., 1914-18 SERVICEMAN. August 1, 1855. [The Minister of Lands (Mr Corbett) commented as follows “The circumstances of this transaction were investigated by the Commissioner of Crown Lands at the time of the trans* for. and having regard to the locality, snow risk, access difficulties, and the need to obtain a proper balance of summer and winter country, the acquisition of the additional area was not considered to be undue aggregation.”]
