World Junior Chess Championship

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) ANTWERP, August 8. Spassky, of Russia, won the world junior chess championship last night with nine out of 10 points. Metnis (United States) with seven points was second, and Saree (Spain) third with six points. J. S. Purdy was tenth with three-and-a-half points in the classification round, in which 14 played after their elimination from the finals. The classification was won by Cidric, of Jugoslavia, with seven and a half points. Purdy, the only Australian entrant, later told Reuter that he “was extremely disappointed because he could not find his usual form.”
