DEVELOPMENT OF HORNBY PARK
METHODS OF FINANCE DISCUSSED Methods of raising finance for the development of Denton Park, Hornby, were discussed at a recent meeting of the Hornby County Township Committee, at which representatives of sports organisations attended. A report of the meeting was presented to the Paparua County Council. The provision of swimming baths, a sports field, and two bowling greens, was discussed at the committee meeting. The county engineer (Mr G. A. MacFarlane) said he could give no indication of the cost of the park development, but levelling and earthwork alone would cost about £3OOO. The county clerk (Mr A. Kelly) said that the money in the Lands Subdivision in Counties Fund for Hornby totalled £2227, and £lOOO had previously been obtained for additional land on the park frontage. In subdivisions of property, the subdivider was required to contribute to this fund for the provision of parks and reserves, and additional money would be available to the fund as more subdivisions occurred in Hornby. “However, there are other reserves in. Hornby which would also require funds for development, and it is unlikely that the Commissioner of Crown Lands would release the whole amount for use on Denton Park,” said Mr Kelly. r A proposal recommending the use of a monster art union for raising funds for development of the park was adopted by the meeting.
