Peter Thomson, the British open champion, from Melbourne, and 106 other top professionals, will compete for the “world championship” of golf at the Tam o’ Shanter Club on Thursday. The prize is worth 50,000 dollars, a guaranteed expenses-paid programme of 55 exhibition matches at 1000 dollars each, and an option to play 50 more. The prize for second place is 10,000 dollars, and there are rewards down to 100 dollars for the seventy-second man in the 72-hole tournament. Doug. Ford, who won the “All-Ameri-can” tournament, in which Thomson was seventh, yesterday, will try to become the first double winner of that championship and the "world” contest since 1948, when Lloyd Mangrum achieved the honour.
