HOUSE FIRE AT NEW BRIGHTON

DAMAGE TO BATHROOM AND KITCHEN

The kitchen, bathroom and contents of a four-roomed wooden bungalow at 58 Collingwood street, New Brighton, were severely damaged by fire late on Monday evening. Firemen from the New Brighton and Christchurch Central Brigades made a a good save when they confined the fire to the back two rooms. Answering the call at 11.44 p.m. they found the house blazing when thev arrived, but soon had it out. The owner of the house is Mrs H. Arnold, an elderly woman, who was not hurt, but suffered badly from shock. The cause of the outbreak is not known. At 12.39 p.m. yesterday units from St. Albans and headquarters answered a call to a fire in a detached washhouse at 261 Win.ers road. Marshland, a property owned by Mr E. Eden.
