CHARITY RUGBY MATCH

VARIED PROGRAMME OF ENTERTAINMENT Generous assistance and co-operation from many sources have made possible a remarkably diversified programme of entertainment to preface the annual Rugby match between the Christchurch police and the combined r-’v.-snaoers. which will be played at the Show Grounds on Sunday. Proceeds from the match will be given to the Christchurch Rotary Club ? s appeal for the aged. Not many programmes could offer such varying attractions as lions and marching girls, but there will be about 200 girls, and a troupe of lions trained by Captain Charles Ridgway, formerly of Coles Circus. The marching girls will give displays of countermarching and the other intricate manoeuvres in which they are expert, culminating in a maze march with massed bands: the lions will jump through blazing hoops and perform similar feats. •

There will be 13 brass and pipe bands to play and give displays and there will be a display of acrobatics by girls from Duckett's gymnasium. The pipe bands will also give a massed display. The Rugby match is an annual one, and was first played about 20 years ago. The police team has won for the last few years.
