Seaforth And Dalise May Race At National Meeting

('ROTTING

The Tinwald trainers, D. L. and F. I. McGregor, have a big team in work, but few of their charges are doing serious tasks. If classes are suitable they will be represented by Seaforth and Dalise at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Grand National meeting at Addington next month. Among the racehorses being allotted light tasks are Chief Lochiel, Magic Mist, and Synchronise. Capull, Perekop, Disdain, and Dalene will resume work shortly. Seaforth, a rising eight-year-old stallion by Light Brigade from Fantine, the dam also of Fantom and Fourth Brigade, more than paid his way this season with one win and one placing from five .starts. His win was gained in the Addington Handicap at the Grand National meeting last year, when he beat Ecosse and Spring Creek after trotting the two miles in 4min 26sec—a very smart effort for a horse in his class. Seaforth has more ability than most in his class, and, if his trainers can get him back to his best, he should soon make a further return for his Dunedin owners, Messrs G. W. Cameron and R. Thomson. Seaforth wintered well, and he is in excellent condition.

Dalise, which races in the same ownership as Seaforth, more than paid his way this season with three wins and five placings from 13 starts. He won the Greymouth Trotting Cup early in January, when he beat La Fey most convincingly. He finished the season by beating Graticulate and Gay Lad in the President’s Handicap at Addington at Easter. He led throughout this race, and won well.

D.%lise is a rising six-year-old gelding by Grattan Loyal from a smart mare in Doonholme. Like most of the progeny of his sire, he should improve with age, artd next season should be a profitable one for him. Chief Lochiel’s Form

Chief Lochiel, which looks very ftt after a let-up, was disappointing in his races this season. His best effort from 11 starts was a third behind Black Douglas and Fallacy in the National Handicap at Hutt Park • last October. The Light Brigade gelding, a halfbrother to a cup horse in Globe Direct, did not have much luck in several of his other races, or his record would have been better. Last season he won three races, the most recent of which was in the R. A. Armstrong Memorial Handicap at Hutt Park on June 5, 1954. Chief Lochiel is a rising nine-year-old.

Magic Mist had considerable racing during the current season, and frons 20 starts he won twice and was once placed. His most important win was in the Nelson Trotting Cup last January, when he beat Count Grattan and Sandman. Magic Mist has at times run more than useful races, but he is not a’lways reliable. When on his best behaviour, he has plenty of speed and stamina. A rising seven-year-old gelding by Light Brigade from Renown’s Best, a fine race mare with a two-mile record of 4min 17 3-ssec, Magic Mist is a half-brother to Renown’s Pride, Best Globe and Real Globe, and he is a brother to Synchronise. Synchronise raced for most of the present season from awkward marks. He won two races and was four times

placed, his most recent effort being a fine second to Battalion over two miles on a heavy track at Ashburton last month. If he reproduces that effort early in the spring, he should soon win a race.

Capull, Perekop, Disdain, and Dalene had very little racing this season, but all four showed considerable promise, and they should win next season. Capull won over two miles at Ashburton last month. A rising six-year-old half-brother by U. Scott to a Dominion Trotting Handicap winner in Precaution, Capull has an abundance of speed and stamina, but he is far from reliable at the start of his races. He should improve with racing and travelling, and next season he may be a good winner, particularly while tracks are easy.

Smart Three-year-old Disdain, a rising four-year-old halfsister by Seaforth to Dalise, was unplaced in two starts this season. A well-grown filly, she is a fine type of trotter and with more experience should develop useful form. Dalene was placed in her two starts this season. A big filly, she is not being hurried, and it may not be until November that she resumes racing. She finished fourth in the Oamaru Juvenile Stakes at her first appearance. after making up a lot of ground. In the New Zealand Sapling Stakes, she was most impressive when she finished third to Lady Wexford and False Step. She is certain to improve with age; and next season she should be one of the best of the fillies. She is a chestnut filly by Light Brigade from Doonholme. Perekop, a half-brother by Fourth Brigade to Precaution, failed in his only start this season. A rising five-year-old, he is a good type of trotter, and with more experience mav be a useful winner. Among the unraced horses in the team are a rising six-year-old mare by Dillon Hall from Southern Bond, a Worthy Bond mare which left other useful performers in Locksley Hall, Southwind and Blazer. A rising three-year-old gelding by Fourth Bri“ gade from Wrackway is a good type of youngster He is a half-brother to Ferula. Ordnance, Te Arawhata, and Sandwrack, all of which won races. Several rising two-year-olds are receiving their early education at the McGregor stables, and one of the most ty ,? e l ln . this category is a colt by U. Scott from Lucky Windsor, an unraced mare by Lucky frorn Windsor Lass, the dam of Windsor Maid, by Truman Direct from Rose Logan, the dam of Mortlake, Technique, Knapdalei/Lass, Rose Volo, and Margaret
