THE KING EDWARD BARRACKS, A CHRISTCHURCH LANDMARK FOR 50 YEARS.—Nearly 50 years ago, on July 13, 1905, the foundation stone of the King Edward Barracks was laid by the the n Premier and Minister of Defence (Mr Seddon). The black convex roof of the big drill hall is the dominant feature of this aerial photograph. At the top of the picture, in line with the barracks, is the Bridge of Remembrance, and to the left is St. Elmo Courts, a large block of flats.
