Atomic Merchant Ship Plan Defeated
(Rec. 9 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 28. The Senate tonight scuttled President Eisenhower’s plans for an atomic merchant ship. By a vote of 42 to 41 it refused to appropriate 21.000.003 dollars to build the ship as part of the President's ‘•atoms-for-peace” programme. The closeness of the vote was attributed to Republican efforts to rescue Mr Eisenhower’s plans. The atomic ship proposal was previously defeated in the House of Representatives.
