CHRISTCHURCH FRENCH CLUB
Mr H. Honore presided over a wellattended meeting of the French Club on Friday evening. Hosts were Mr G. S. Troup, Mrs Troup, Mr S. Bent, and Mrs Bent and Mr M. Money. Misses B. Mann (violin) and Cameron (piano) played “The Swan,” by St. Saens and “Tambourin,” by Leclaire. The three hundredth anniversary of the death of Cyrano de Bergerac was observed by Messrs Troup and Money, who gave a talk in dialogue form comparing the characters of Hamlet and de Bergerac. Miss Wendy Thackwell (soprano), accompanied by Mr Ross Thackwell (piano), sang the Jewel song by Gounod and “Songs my Mother Taught Me” by Dvorak. Mr Steven Elsom (tenor), accompanied by Mr Thackwell. sang excerpts from “Faust.” by Gounod, and “The Magic Flute.’’ by Mozart. Mr Troup and Mrs Troup read a scene from Rostand’s “Cyrano de Bergerac.”
