YOUTH DIES OF INJURIES STRUCK BY ROCK AFTER EXPLOSION (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, June 25. A young man who was severely Injured by a piece of rock blasted from a hillside on June 2, died in the Greymouth Public Hospital this morning. He was: Henry Robert Dobbin, aged 18, single, a railway surfaceman, son of Mr and Mrs H. Dobbin, of Dobson. Mr Dobbin was working with other members of a railway gang on the line between Dobson and W a Use nd and above the line a Mines Department gang was blasting in a ventilation shaft leading into the Dobson mine. When warning of an impending explosion was given Mr Dobbin took shelter behind a hut about 100 yards away from the shaft, and the other gangers crouched behind a rock embankment Pieces of the rock biased out by the explosion struck the shelter hut and one of about 21b hit Mr Dobbin on the head. MOTOR-CYCLIST KILLED (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 26. A motor-cyclist was killed instantly when his machine hit a pole in Ngaruawahia about 1 a.m. today. He was Robert Leslie Kemp, aged 23, son of Mrs E. Kemp, Saulbrey road, Ngaruawahia. Mr Kemp had been in Hamilton, and was returning to his home when the ’ accident occurred. SMALL BOY FATALLY INJURED FALL FROM HAY LOFT (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 26. A small boy died in the Whangarei Hospital early this morning from injuries suffered when he fell 15ft from a hay loft to the concrete yard at his father’s farm at Horeke on Saturday. He was:— Roger Noland Warmington, aged three, son of Mr and Mrs N. Warmington, of Ivydale, Horeke, Hokianga. TRACTOR CAPSIZES FARMER AND SON BADLY INJURED (New Zealand Press Association) . AUCKLAND, June 26. Joseph Gordon Wade, aged 55, and his son, Barnard, aged 11, were injured when a tractor overturned into a ditch on Mr Wade’s farm at Whiteford about 5 p.m. on Saturday. Both were taken to the Middlemore Hospital. Mr Wade suffered fractures of the pelvis and left forearm, and the boy fractures of the pelvis and one shoulder. EXPLOSION INJURES YOUTH HOME-MADE BOMB SET OFF PREMATURELY (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 26. A home-made bomb exploded without warning and injured the left hand of Ken Johnston, aged 17, an Air Force apprentice, of Hobsonville, this afternoon. The accident occurred at the home of the youth’s grandmother, Mrs D. James, of Arch Hill. Johnston was taken to the Middlemore Hospital, where he was operated on. He has lost at least one finger, and is suffering from shock. The explosive material was in a bottle, which Johnston was holding in his left hand. He was tamping down the material with a stick when it exploded.

THREE PERSONS BURNT SPIRIT STOVE EXPLODES (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 25. Three persons who were burnt at Oneroa, Waiheke Island, when a small spirit stove exploded in a house late last night, were rushed 15 miles to the Auckland Hospital in the police launch, Lady Shirley. After attention, a three-year-old boy was admitted to the hospital. Those injured are Mr and Mrs W. Revell, and Robert William Revell, of Mako road, Oneroa. The condition of the child was reported today to be fairly satifactory. Mr and Mrs Revell were treated at the casualty ward. The child suffered burns on the head and face when his hair caught fire. He was also burr t on his left arm and hand. Mrs Revell was burnt on the chest and left hand when her clothes caught fire, and Mr Revell was burnt on one hand. DRIVER KILLED LIGHT TRUCK FALLS INTO RIVER (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, June 25. Norman Leslie Joel, aged 40, a contractor, of 141 Eglinton road, Dunedin, was killed when a light truck crashed through the railings of the Tokomairiri river bridge, near Milton, at 7 a.m. today. A passenger in the truck, Wingston George Reid, was slightly injured. The truck plunged into the river and overturned, jamming the driver’s door. Heavy rain had been falling and visibility was poor.
