LYTTELTON NEWS

BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS An offer of two garden seats for the Cenotaph garden plot was received from the Lyttelton branch of the Returned Services’ Association at a meeting of the Lyttelton Borough Council last evening. The letter also conveyed to the council the thanks of the branch for the excellent order in which the plot was kept. The offer was accepted, and the council decided to thank the branch for its gift. A letter from the Mount Herbert County Council asked whether the Lyttelton Borough Council would be able to supply water to residents of Governor’s Bay. Cr. J. Barrett asked what the Mount Herbert County Council proposed to do. The letter should have given more details. It was a half-hearted sort of letter, said Cr. A. M. Miller. He moved that the county council be asked for further particulars of its requirements. The motion was seconded by Cr. Barrett and carried. A letter from the Waitaki Power Board asked the support of the council in representations being made to the Government urging that the Benmore scheme be begun as soon as possible. The Government’s proposal to proceed with the scheme in 1959 allowed no margin for unexpected delays, said the board.

The council decided to support the board.

A suggestion by Cr. Gladys Boyd that a health circular, drawn up by the Borough Inspector ■ (Mr H. G. Ablett), be distributed periodically to all households and business premises,' was adopted by the council.
