HOPES FOR PEACE
Basis Of Western Policy (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK. June 17. The Western Big Three Foreign Ministers said last night that they are hopeful that, with persistence, much can be achieved in the coming months towards the goal of peace with freedom and justice. The Ministers made this statemeni in a communique after two days oi talks in New York before they go on to San Francisco for further discussions with Mr Molotov, the Soviet Foreign Minister. The Western meetings, begun yesterday, were arranged to prepare the ground for the Geneva conference of Sir Anthony Eden. President Eisenhower. Marshal Nikolai Bulganin, and Mr Edgar Faure, the British, American, Soviet, and French heads of governments. The Western Ministers —Mr Harold Macmillan (Britain), Mr John Foster Dulles (United States) and Mr Antoine Pinay (France) said: “On the threshold of the tenth anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, the Foreign Ministers are confident that the common policies which they and their allies have successfully pursued in the past will provide the foundation for further progress in the settlement of outstanding problems.”
