COMMUNITY CENTRE AT KAIKOURA

OPENING ON JUNE 24 BY MR J. K. MCALPINE

The Minister of Railways (Mr J. K. McAlpine) wil open the Kaikoura War Memorial Community Centre on June 24. according to advice received by the Kaikoura County Council. Invitations have been extended to the Member of Parliament for Southern Maori (Mr E. T. Tirikatene) and to representatives of neighbouring counties, of Returned Services Associations in Marlborough, Christchurch, and Kaikoura; and next-of-kin of men of the district who died in World War 11.

The community centre is situated adjacent to the County Council’s office on the north-eastern end of Takahanga Domain and opposite the “Gerden of Memories.” Erected at a cost, with equipment of £32,000, it comprises a hall (70 feet by 50 feet), and stage, supper room, kitchen, library, Plunket rboms and a showerblock for the? use of sports organisations.
