Holders of Licences previously issued by the Malvern County Council may renew same by post, provided the current Licence is enclosed, together with prescribed fee, and stamped, addressed envelope. Personal application must be made by drivers holding a Licence issued elsewhere. Drivers who do not have to produce medical certificates may elect to renew uieir Licences for any number of years up to five. BALLINTINE, County Clerk. , ' 5158 HALSWELL COUNTY COUNCIL PURSUANT to the provisions of “The Counties Amendment Act, 1931,” PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the following Estimates of Expenditure have been approved by the Halswell County Council, for the period of 12 months commencing on the first day of April. 1955, and ending on the Thirty-first day of March, 1956: 1. The proposed Expenditure of the said Council:— £ (a) On administration, including salaries, allowances, office and legal expenses, audit, valuation, insurances, printing, etc. .. .. .. 2,500 (b) On Hospital Levy, payable to the North Canterbury Hospital Board .. .. 771 (c) On Main Highways Maintenance .. .. .. 300 (d) On County roads and footpaths .. .. 5,700 (e) On street lighting .. .. 200 (f) On fire protection .. 400 (g) On new roads .. .. 2,525 (h) On replacement New Plant and vehicle .. .. 1,750 (i) On miscellaneous and contingencies .. .. 3,300 17,446 2. The additional sum required is 5,977 The total rateable value of the property appearing in the Valuation Rolls for the Halswell County is £1,144,125, and the General Rate necessary to produce the required sum is One Penny Farthing in the pound. Pursuant to the provisions of “The Counties Act, 1920, the “Rating Act, 1925,” and Amendments thereto, PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Halswell County Council, at a meeting to be held on THURSDAY, the 30th day of JUNE, 1955, proposes to make and levy the following rates:— 1. A GENERAL RATE of One Penny Farthing (IJd) in the £ on the rateable value of all rateable property within the County of Halswell. 2. A SEPARATE RATE of Three Farthings in the Pound in Class A, Five-eighths of a Penny in the Pound In Class B, and One Half Penny in the Pound in Class C on rateable value of all rateable property in the Halswell Drainage Area. Such rates to be for the period commencing on the Ist day of April, 1955, and ending on the 31st day of March, 1956, and shall be due and payable in one sum on the 22nd day of August, 1955, at the office of the Halswell County Council, 3 Annex road, Christchurch, where the Valuation Rolls of the County are open for inspection.
