CLAIM BY SOVIET SCIENTIST

(Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON. June 11. A Russian scientist claimed yesterday that his colleagues had solved the theoretical problems of using atomic energy to drive inter-planetary space ships and were working on the establishment of a control station to guide such vessels. The scientist, Mr V. A. Leshkovtsev, speaking over Moscow Radio, said the practical side to powered space ships still remained to be worked out, the main problem being that of providing atomic furnace walls which could resist enormous heat. Mr Leshkovtsev said a committee set up by the Soviet Academy of Sciences to study problems of interplanetary travel was working on the establishment of a control station which would record all phenomena connected with space ships.
