CHARGES OF BRIBERY
Prison Terms In Belgium (Rec. 11 p.m.) BRUSSELS, June 11. A Brussels Court today sentenced three former Belgian generals to prison terms ranging from two months to three years for bribery in securing national defence contracts. Two of the sentences were suspended. Camille Grimart, who worked as a colonel in the Defence Ministry after retiring from active service as an honorary general, was sent to three years’ imprisonment for accepting bribes of 600,000 francs. He was found guilty of favouring civil engineering companies in securing contracts to build a pipeline in Belgium for the North Atlantc Treaty Organisation. Jules Maroye and Paul Jacquet de Haveskerke, both former honorary generals and heads of contracting firms, were sentenced to six and two monthS’ suspended prison terms respectively for bribing Grimart. Neither will serve the sentence unless he is found guilty of another offence in the next five years.
