SUMNER SILVER BAND
COMPETITION RESULTS The championship of the Sumner Silver Band was won by G. Snelgrove, when the band held competitions for soloists and duetists recently. Snelgrove also won the Keech Challenge Cup by scoring the highest number of points with an instrument other than a cornet. J. Sauer scored the highest number of points for cornet playing, and K. Thomas was the most successful learner to compete. The judge was Mr R. J. Estall, who was assisted by Mr Steere. Results were:— A Grade.—G. Snelgrove (euphonium), 86 points. 1; I. Quartly (euphonium), 83. 2, T. Langley (trombone) and J. Sauer (cornet). 82 (equal) 3. Learners: B. Roberts 1, K. Thomas 2, C. Johnson 3. B Grade.—J. Druery (flugel). 72 points. 1; N. O’Brien (cornef), 69, 2; P. Kither (trombone). 64, 3. Duettists.—J. Watson (trombone) and T. Langley (trombone), 81 points, 1; G Sauer (cornet) and J. Sauer (cornet), 80 2; P. Kither (trombone) and I Quartly (euphonium), 76. 3.
