CANADA MAY BUY COMETS

Canadian Pacific Airlines is willing to pay £4,000,000 for four Comet Mark IV jet airliners provided they can be delivered by the middle of 1959. Mr G. Grant. McConachie, president of the airline, said this today after arriving ’on the inaugural Polar flight between Vancouver and Amsterdain. The Comet IV, according to de Havillands, the'makers, will be the same size as the Comet 111, but will have a longer ranges Mr McConachie said he would see de Havillands next week with a view to buying the Comets. “We are definitely .Interested,’’ he said. Mr McConachie said that eventually the airline might buy 12 Comet Mark TV’s, but certainly /not at the start. He thought the price would be £I.OOOXIOO each. His airline was very happy with the Comet. “I think it? is the finest aircraft in the world." he said.
