ANGLICAN SOCIAL WELFARE WORK
UNIFIED CONTROL IN CHRISTCHURCH
All social welfare work in the Diocese of Christchurch will come under one direction when the City Mission (Church Army) joins forces with the Social Service Council of the Diocese of Christchurch on July 1, says “Church and People.” When the Social Service Council was formed two years ago, it incorporated the former St. Saviour’s Guild, the Anglican Society of the Friends of the Aged, and St. Anne’s Guild. Now -St. Martin’s House of Help and the City Mission will also become a part of the general scheme for social work throughout the diocese. Discussions have been held by the committee of St. Martin’s House of Help, the Social Service Council, and the Church Army, and it has been agreed that the work •of the City Mission will come under the control of the council. Officers of the Church Army will continue their work in the new organisation, and a St. Martin’s House of Help committee will continue to function.
