ASSAULT CHARGE DISMISSED

ALLEGED BITING IN QUARREL (New Zealand Press Association) WHAKATANE, June 7. A union official at Kawerau allegeu in the Magistrate’s Court today that he had been bitten on the ear, cheek, nose, and leg in a quarrel with another man in the kitchen of the Kawerau construction camp cafeteria. Harry Laurenson, a carpenter, formerly employed at Kawerau, was charged with assaulting Campbell Emile Fay at Kawerau on April 19. Laurenson said the fight started as a result of Fay’s attitude as union delegate towards the dismissal of a woman kitchen employee. He said he had had a black-out during the quarrel, and did not remember biting Fay. Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., said the evidence was unsatisfactory, and dismissed the charge.
