VANCOUVER TO AMSTERDAM
TRANS POLAR FLIGHT INAUGURATED
(Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, June 6. The Lord Mayor of Sydney, Mr P. Hills, and the New Zealand Minister of Tourist and Health Resorts, Mr E. H. Halstead, arrived in London today after a flight from Sydney across the North Pole. They were among the 43 passengers who helped inaugurate Canadian Pacific Airlines’ weekly polar service between Vancouver and Amsterdam. The new route has linked Pacific flights to Australia and New Zealand. Mr Hills and Mr Halstead will go on to Paris before taking off on their “across-the-world” trip home next week-end. Mr Hills said today he thought that the new route was a good thing for Australia. r Mr Halstead said he thought that it would stimulate the tourist trade with Britain/ Coal and Steel President.— The High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community has unanimously approved the nomination of Mr Rene Mayer, former French Prime Minister, as its new president. A spokesman said Mr Mayer was due to»be installed as president on June 9 and 10.— Luxembourg, June 6.
