TRADE DEFICIT IN AUSTRALIA
(Rec. 11.30 p.m.) CANBERRA, June 7. Official statistics today showed that Australia had a trade deficit of £10,600,000 during May, with trading at higher levels than in previous months.
Imports totalled £79,000,000, and exports £ 68.400.000. In May, 1954, the corresponding figures were: exports £60,200,000 and imports £59,300,000. The trade deficit for the 11 months of the current financial year totalled £62,800,000, compared with a favourable balance of £166,700,000 for the same period lasf year.
