THE GINKGO TREE
Sir,—l read with great interest an article in “The Press” on Friday last about the Dominion’s finest and largest Ginkgo tree, growing on a property at the corner of Chester and Madras streets, which has been purchased by the Harbour Board as a site for offices. On the other hand, I read with grave concern the statement that the tree might be doomed. It has, in all its beauty, been a delight to many people: and I think that the onus in oh all lovers of nature to join with me in vigorously protesting against so fine and rare a tree being destroyed. Surely the Harbour Board could take steps to see that the tree is preserved.—Yours, etc., TREE LOVER. June 7, 1955.
