VICTORIAN ELECTION
Test Cricketer Gains Seat (Rec. 10 p.m.) MELBOURNE. June 6. The former test cricketer, Sam Loxton. today won a seat in the Victorian Legislative Assembly—by 15 votes after the distribution of preferences. Loxton. who stood as a LiberalCountry Party candidate for the suburban seat of Prahran, was making his first bid to enter politics. Loxton played against England in three tests in both 1948 and 1950, against India in 1947, and in all five tests against South Africa in 1949. He is an all-rounder and made a cen'tury debut against the South Africans. Loxton’s win leaves the LiberalCountry Party only one more seat to win to give it an absolute majority in the Assembly. Five seats are still doubtful.
