NEWS FOR WOMEN “MISS BRITAIN” PLANS TO LIVE IN AUCKLAND

The chance reading of an advertisement for a modelling school, after she had worked in a shop for two years began a fabulous career for Miss Patricia Butler, of Liverpool, who holds' the title of “Miss Britain” for 195455. Miss Butler has come to settle in Auckland.

Slim, with chestnut hair and a fresh complexion, Miss Butler has been a model for five years and travelled all over Great Britain. Trained in Manchester, she had her own - modelling school in Liverpool and she plans to open one in New Zealand.

“I wouldn't like to go through it all again,” said Miss Butler in Auckland when speaking of the contest for the “Miss Britain” title. “There were 25,000 entrants from all parts of the country, with 36 in the finals, which were held in Morecombe.” But she found her modelling training of great help. The first heat was held in May last year and the finals in September. Miss Butler has won many other competitions, but says her most exciting experience was in modelling the

famous diamond jewellery made at the time of the Coronation.

The £25.000 worth of diamonds included a tiara which could be broken down into brooch, dress clips and earrings,.a bracelet with a spray over the hand which could be detached and worn as a brooch, and drop earrings with a shower of diamonds that went over the top of the ear as well. “There was also a plain necklace—if it could be called plain—on to which could be attached all the parts of the five pieces,” said Miss Butler. “It was all in a floral design with the stamens of the flowers on tiny springs with diamonds on the ends, so that the whole thing shimmered with every movement.”

In her five years as fashion and photography mannequin, Miss Butler has modelled everything from furs to swim suits and spectacles to shoes. She has worked in fashion houses in Holland and Belgium, appearing on Dutch television.

New Zealand holds two great interests for Miss Butler—swimming and attending the races. Her home was near Aintree.
