A flash-over on a temporary substation structure at the Cobb hydroelectric generating station at 6.10 p.m. on Wednesday blacked out the Nelson and Marlborough districts for two hours. State Hydro-electric Department staff at Cobb river worked out of doors in steady rain by the light of truck headlamps and torches to replace burnt lines and fit new connexions. The flash-over, which caused a violent surge over the whole supply system, might have been caused by lightning, the department’s district engineer. Mr ... S. S. Meredith, said yesterday.
