Australia Accepts Revised Text CANBERRA, June 2. The Minister of Trade and Customs, Senator Neil O’Sullivan, announced that Australia has accepted the revised General Agreement on Trades and Tariffs which Britain has also approved. Senator O’Sullivan, who made his statement in the Senate tonight, said the Government was also prepared to accept the establishment of the Organisation for Trade and Co-operation, but would wait for the United States to take the necessary steps first. Australia did not like G.A.T.T., Senator O’Sullivan said, “but to withdraw from it meant introducing unknown and unpredictable factors into our relations with the nations with which we conduct most of our trade ’ ’ The revised text of G.A.T.T. was “much more to our liking,” he said. He welcomed the provisions which would now allow the use of customs tariffs as a means of encouraging the development of worthwhile Australian industries.
