WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

Domett.—The April meeting of the Domett Country Women’s Institute yas presided over by the president (Mrs J. Fitzsimmons). Tho vice-president (Mrs J. Daly) presented a birthday spray to one member. Mrs Langley also received a spray in recognition of her services to the institute as treasurer during the last six years. Magazines had been sent to a fellow-member who had been in hospital. The speaker, Mr Coombe, an instructor of the Department of Agriculture, gave an interesting lecture on disease control on fruit, flowers, and vegetables in the home garden. Results of competitions were as follows:—small bloom: Mrs S. Wilkinson I, Mrs T. Conway 2. Mrs Wilkinson 3. Large bloom: Mrs T. Conway and Mrs B. Wilkinson (equal) 1, Mrs J. Fitzsimmons 3 and 4. Arrangement of leaves and berries: Mrs Fitzsimmons. Print apron: Mesdames A. Cross and Wilkinson (equal). Hostesses for the evening were Mesdames J. Daly, Wilkinson, and W. T. Jackman. Waikuku Beach.—Mrs Richards presided at the April meeting of the Waikuku Beach Country Women’s Institute. A birthday spray was presented to Mrs Cumming. Competitions resulted Large bloom: Mrs Johnson 1, Mrs Webb 2, Mrs Lindsay 3. Small bloom: Mrs Webb 1, Mrs Cumming 2, Mrs Frost 3. Spike: Mrs Webb 1, Mrs Johnson 2, Mrs Frost 3. Cluster: Mrs Cuming 1, Mrs-Webb 2, Mrs Frost 3. Bottle tomato sauce: Mrs Johnson 1, Mrs Cumming 2, Mrs Carroll 3. Best decorated bowl fruit: Mrs Frost 1, Mrs Webb 2, Mrs Richards 3.

Mason’s Flat.—Mrs Scott presided over a fair/ attendance at the May meeting of the Mason’s Flat Country Women’s Institute. Mrs C. C. Mason’s resignation was received with regret. Mrs J. Earl gave a report on the annual federation meeting held at Sefton. Mrs Cottle, of Ohoka, demonstrated the making of dried arrangements using dried seed pods and no flowers. Monthly competitions resulted. as follows:—large bloom; Mesdames M. and H. Earl (equal) 1, Mrs J. Earl 3, Mrs Baldwin 4. Small bloom: Mrs M. Earl 1, Mrs J. Earl 2, Mesdames Baldwin and P. Earl (equal) 3. Spike or cluster: Mrs H. Eafl 1, Mrs P. Earl 2, Mrs Eaves 3. Bottle of tomato sauce: Mrs P. Earl 1, Mrs Michael 2, Mesdames H. Earl and McEwan (equal) 3. Four savouries: Mrs McEwan. Mesdames H. Earl and Eaves were hostesses. Lake ’ Coleridge.—Mrs Turner presided over a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Lake Coleridge Country Women’s Institute. Several visitors were welcomed. Birthday flowers were presented to Mesdames Knox, Lofley-; and Folley. The guest speaker was Miss C. Brightmore, who‘gave an interesting talk oh home furnishings. Competition results were:—best bloom (HarSer Cup): Mrs Gordon. Posy bowl mixed owers: Mrs Thomas. Largest carrot: Mrs Leith. Three 4 potatoes: Mrs Knox. The hostesses were Mesdames Thomas and Righton. Mount Pleasant.—Two new members were welcomed by the president, Mrs J. McGregor Smith, at the April meeting of the Mount Pleasant Country Women’s Institute. A gift of five shillings was voted to the Maori Girls’ College. Much interest was shown in .a talk by Miss Joan Cradock, field officer of the Canter-bury-Westland branch of the New Zealand: Crippled Children Society. . Mrs Park won all three competitions. They were for a green salad, child’s play suit,, and orange peel basket of flowers. The sales table, in charge of Mrs Radcliffe, did good business. The. hostesses were Mesdames Allen, Buxton, Brixton, and Miss M. Bridgman, assisted to-meHiberß, Greendale.—The April meeting of the Grendale Country women’s Institute was held at the home of Mrs E.
