CHRISTCHURCH Y.M.C.A.

ANNUAL MEETING More than 4500 youths undergoing their military training at Burnham Military Camp spent considerable time at the Young Men’s Christian Association’s rooms during week-end leave last year, it was reported at the annual meeting of the association. On an average, 60 to 90 young men used the facilities provided by the association each week-end. Considerable space in the annual report was devoted to the alterations and plans for the association’s building on the comer of Cambridge terrace and Hereford street. The financial report showed an excess of expenditure over income of £45 7s sd, but this was not regarded by the treasurer (Mr G. Lawn) as being unsatisfactory in view of the amount of alterations carried out to the building during the year. Repairs and maintenance during the year had cost £591, compared with £219 the previous year; Mr A. T. Watson was elected president unopposed. The former president (Mr R. A. Marsh), who had held the post for three years, sent a letter resigning from the presidency. Messrs W. Goss. E. H. Smith, and A. E. Collins, three directors who retired in rotation, were re-elected unanimously. 'At the conclusion of the business of the meeting, Dr. H. T. Knights, Assistant Medical Officer of Health in Christchurch, gave an address on “Leisure, Servant or Master.”
