MURDER CHARGE
YOUTH REMANDED TILL MAY 27 (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 20. Edward Thomas Te Whiu, aged 20, a labourer, appeared in the Magistrate's Court today on a charge of murdering Mrs Florence Jane Smith, aged 76, a widow, at Ngararatunua, near Whangarei, on April 28. He was also charged with a breach of probation on April 5. was further remanded to May In obtaining the remand, DetectiveSergeant M. J. Ross told Mr L. G. H. Sinclair. S.M., that it was hoped thet on May 27 the date would ue fixed for the preliminary hearing at Whangarei.
