NEGLIGENT DRIVING CHARGE FAILS
MAN ACQUITTED BY JURY AT NEW TRIAL
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 20. • Attpr a retirement of 75 minutes, a jury today acquitted Archibald John Campbell, aged 49, a coal and firewood merchant, on a charge of driving a truck while under the influence of drmk and causing the death of John Rodgers. The accused, who appeared in the Supreme Court at Auckland before Mr Justice Stanton, was also acquitted on an alternative charge of negligently driving the vehicle so as to cause Rodger’s death. » in th e month a jury had failed to agree on a verdict and the Judge (Mr Justice Finlay) ordered a retrial.
