EMPIRE SOCIETY’S ESSAY CONTEST
AUCKLAND GIRL WINS THIRD PRIZE (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7 pun.) LONDON, May 19. Barbara McCamb of the Takapuna Grammar School, Auckland, won the Margaret Best Prize—the equivalent of third prize—in Class B of the Koyal Empire Society’s essay competition for 1954.
The chief examiner, Mr A. T. Milne said that she depicted well the internal and external effects of war on her country. J. J. Elliott, of King’s School, Remuera, and A. J. Smith, of Waimate primary school, South Canterbury, were commended for their entries in Class C. w S t P ri ? e in Class C was won by w "S* Milne says: The Waitaki Boys’ High School, which used to do so well in pre-war days, should be looking to its laurels.”
