THEFT OF £1986 FROM GARAGE
AUCKLAND FIRM’S LOSS
FOUR DAYS’ RECEIPTS TAKEN FROM SAFE
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 26. A thief took at least £1986 from a strongroom in Kirk Motors, Ltd., Greys avenue, between 12.18 a.m. and 7.45 a.m. today. "It may amount to a little more,” said Mr H. M. Kirk, managing director of-the) firm. “Finding out just how much is complicated by the fact that the thief took the cash register rolls wlth him.” The money, said Mr Kirk, was mostly ta notes, but there was some silver. It was the garage's takings for Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The strongroom is in the office some 30 feet from the petrol pumps, and out of view of the man on duty there. “The door was closed and locked by the shift foreman at 12.14 a.m„” said Mr Kirk. “The day-shift foreman found the door had been opened —apparently with a key.” Mr Kirk said there was only one man on duty during the seven and a half hours ta which the theft occurred, and he was occupied with the petrol pumps.
