HAWKES BAY CLUB

ORMOND MEMORIAL WON BY REDCRAZE (New Zealand Press Association) HASTINGS, April 24. Reintroduced into the programme after a lapse of 25 years, the Ormond Memorial Gold Cup, for three-year-olds and upwards, was won by the Woodville-trained Redcraze from Easterbrook. The event was the main attraction on the second and concluding day of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s autumn meeting at Hastings on Saturday. The double was won by Some Tiki, a first-day winner, and Pharoah’s Castle. The combination returned a dividend of £37 3a 6d for £l. Conditions were inclined to be heavy, though the course did not cut up to the extent expected after 24 hours of rain. In the Hastings Hack Cup Teddy Balloch, the second favourite, made a false start and ran twice round the course. He was returned to the birdcage by the clerk of the course and did not start in the actual race. The totalisatcr handled £52,136 10s, compared with £67,108 for the corresponding day last year.
